I acted as the Lead Interior Designer for this project, designing the full scope of the interiors from Schematic Design through Construction Administration. Project Background: A new Elementary School was proposed to help the district replace the approximately 80,000 s.f. of outdated, non-functional, and rigid elementary spaces housed at Lincoln (3-5) and Washington (PK-2). The new unified PK-5 facility will allow for best-practice education design to be implemented in an approximately 65,000 s.f. facility. The plan can be broken down into two main zones. The first, is the public and shared use areas. These include the building admin office, art, food service, commons, and gym on the first level. On the second floor, it includes a secondary admin area located near the 3-5, music, and the library/media center and STEM areas. The second zone is the educational zone. This is organized with the PK-2 located at the first floor, with 3rd -5th grades housed on the second floor. K-2 and 3-5 wrap around the East-South-and West sides of the central gym providing quick access to and from that area.
I was the project lead for the full renovation of an existing retail store located on the Walt Disney Imagineering campus when I worked for WDI in Glendale, CA. My duties included as-built drawing creation, programming and research, schematic design and design development, and the creation of a full construction document package for bid including full FF&E and finish selection and 3D renderings. Mickey's of Glendale has been an iconic store on the WDI campus for over 20 years. In 2018, I was asked to create a renovation package for the 6,000/sf location. The inspiration for the design came from the green space surrounding the building. The goal was to bring the outside in while still allowing for a neutral pallet to showcase the large variety of items that would be sold here. I lead design meetings with the store manager and project manager to create a design package ready for bid. I also created custom millwork, shelving, and floor display pieces, including a unique merchandise display wall and reading nook in the front of the store. The project was constructed in 2020.
I assisted on this project while working for Thomas Weems Architect in Johnson City, TN. My duties included creating 3D presentation renderings, performing site visits, taking site photgraphy, and recording meeting information. The Model Mill, circa 1909, has a rich history in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee and has become somewhat of a historical landmark in the community situated on the corner of Walnut Street and Sevier Street. After standing many years in disrepair, R&G Ventures purchased the property in 2016 with the intent of moving Summers-Taylor, Inc.’s corporate headquarters to Johnson City and sought to marry the heritage of the building with the development of the downtown core. Thomas Weems Architect envisioned restoring the exterior of the mill by reopening windows, reinstating the original building mural, rebuilding the stepped parapets and creatively incorporating modern storefront, dormers, and mixed materials. The overall building design will harness the historical precedence and provide a catalyst to the growth of the Walnut Street Corridor.
